When Duty Calls Alyson Sanders’ sister to deployment overseas, Alyson takes on the responsibility of her one-year-old niece. When the mother is killed in action and her personal effects include a letter naming Lt. Col. Mitchlen as the father, Alyson must decide whether or not to contact the man to let him know he’s a father.
At first, Dale doesn’t believe that Katie Ann is his daughter—until he sees her picture. Not wanting her childhood to be as chaotic as his own, he shows up on Alyson’s doorstep to see his daughter and to let Alyson know that he is seeking custody, pending the results of a DNA test.
Neither wants a court battle, but both have strong reasons for refusing to give up custody and it doesn’t help when the little girl becomes attached to the big man with the deep, rumbling voice.
Tensions run high as they’re drawn together, but a child’s future hangs in the balance and neither wants to make a mistake by following their heart.

This story was truly captivating! Alyson has lost her sister to the war and now she is responsible for her 1 yr old niece, Katie Ann. After finding out who the father is, Alyson visits him so that he can finally have a chance to get to know his daughter. Dale is an air force pilot and when a strange woman requests a meeting with him, never did he think he would be told he was a father. The struggle (both mental & emotional) that ensues is a powerful story of loss, love & following your heart!When I was offered to read this series by the author, I was so excited! I love stories that involve men in uniform - no matter what uniform they wear. They usually are strong alpha males who have an equal partner to spar & banter with throughout the book. Sometimes the characters can be a little over the top, so I was pleasantly surprised when this story turned out to be very real & down to earth. No high intense action scenes, or the hero coming to save the say of the heroine - but a story that anyone could easily identify with about the struggle of losing a loved one and having to take on the responsibility of a child. About finding out that you had a 1 yr old daughter, unexpectedly, and the road that you now must take to accept a responsibility you didn't know you had, and opening your heart to a love for her that is endless. Alyson & Dale's road is hard, as it should be, but reading their journey was such a pleasant & page-turning experience.
Definitely a must read for any fan of military heroes!

Good read, fun little twists and turns thrown in making you not want to put it down until the end!
Her method of writing makes you want to continue reading, one of those books that you pick up and don't want to put down, but you must for a time. I also like the feeling that as the story ends, it's really not ending, there's more to come, you can look forward to the continuation of the character's stories. It's filled with hope and we all need that in our lives. I enjoy the fact that she eludes to and even enters into a possible romantic relationship without all the unnecessary details, it leaves the reader with the option of going where we choose in our imaginations. The writing is light and encouraging I thoroughly enjoy her work and look forward to the book that follows in this series.
